San Francisco at Detroit (Monday Night Football)

Each week this season will close with the Monday Night Football game.  Week one of 1982 starts off with the defending champs Detroit against one of the top teams in the NFC San Francisco and their 1981 MVP quarterback Jim Plunkett.  There is no reason to think the Lions won't be back on top of the NFC, but there is good reason to think the 49ers may be a bit too old to play at the same level.  In fact the NFC West could be the weakest Division in the NFL.  It all depends on how much Plunkett and Delvin Williams have left.  They are certainly the favorites to take the West title, but it's questionable how far they can go in the playoffs.

  1. He will perhaps never be able to live down "The Shank" from the NFL81 divisional-playoff loss to visiting Dallas, but this is a good way to start.

San Francisco's ball on Detroit's 7 yard line. Fourth and less than 2 to go. 4:49 left in the overtime. The score is San Francisco 28, Detroit 28.
San Francisco's K1 #6 Steve Mike-Mayer attempts a 24 yard field goal. The kick is good. That was FGPAT (928) against Detroit's FGPATD (928).

    PAT Att/Gd
    K1 Steve Mike-Mayer 4/4

    Field Goals Att/Gd Long
