NFL 1982 Week 3 Preview

Last season everyone was expecting big things from the Packers and they started off hot.  By week 12 it was obvious to everyone they were done.  Their offense was struggling, their defense was struggling and you could feel the team had lost itself.  This team had been eyed by everyone for years thinking that 1981 would be their season to move to the front of the NFC, but instead they took a fall back.  Going into 1982 no one is expecting much of anything from the Packers, but so far they look very good.  Their defense has been playing very well and they've easily won their two games, this past week easily handling the defending champion Detroit Lions.  No one is thinking the Packers are a major player at this point, but people will be watching them closely to see if they can keep playing this well.

This season the team that everyone is buzzing about is the Philadelphia Eagles.  They had a very dangerous offense for the past two seasons with a defense that has shown slight improvement.  They have the best running back in the league and a very steady passing game.  The thought is if their defense can improve a bit more this season they could rise to the top and maybe win the NFC.  So far their offense has struggled a bit, but their defense has played well and helped get them to 2-0.  They have four very tough games coming up, but three of them are at home.  It's a good time for the Eagles to jump atop the NFC East.

Week 3 Games to Watch
Washington 1-1 at Philadelphia 2-0
A win at home here would not only make the Eagles 3-0 but also 2-0 in the Division.

Dallas 2-0 at New York Giants 1-1
Same for Dallas.  This should be a good game to see how good the Giants are.  Their pass offense is looking pretty good and they may score quite a few points against the Dallas defense.

Green Bay 2-0 at San Francisco 2-0
The Packers defense is the key to their team and they struggled last season.  This will be an early season test to see if they've bounced back.

Kansas City 1-1 at Baltimore 1-1
The Chiefs don't look quite as explosive on offense this year and could easily slide to 1-2 against a Colts team which is trying to find a way to win with Billy Sims.

Oakland 1-1 at New York Jets 2-0
The Jets and the Patriots both look very good here at the start of the season.  This should be an easy win for the Jets.  For the Raiders they need to at least show that they can compete with a higher quality team if they hope to have a playoff shot.

Houston 1-1 at Miami 1-1
A tough early season game for two teams that are struggling a bit.  Home field should give the Dolphins the edge here.

New England 2-0 at Cleveland 1-1
The Patriots have looked great in their two openers.  This will be a tough road game for them as the Browns have put together a very tough defense.
