  1. Neill Armstrong continues to refine his fast-rising Packers.

It appeared last season that former waiver-wire pickup Willie Wilder had ended Green Bay's churn through HB1s--until David Overstreet, Cincinnati's first-round draft choice out of Oklahoma, turned up on the waiver wire during training camp. He's one of three new starters on offense, along with TE1 Pat Curran (waived by San Diego) and C1 Mark Slater (a fourth-year pro signed as a rookie free agent out of Minnesota in NFL78).

Two rookies have cracked Armstrong's stout defense. Curtis Green, the first-round pick out of Alabama State, has jumped ahead of NFL80 All-Pro Dave Pureifory at DE2, and second-rounder Rickey Jackson out of Pitt has moved in at LB3.

  4. Armstrong has done a brilliant job of rebuilding the Green Bay defense, but it should be noted that stars of this (game-clinching?) drive are Bart Starr discoveries: Dickey, an NFL76 trade pickup from Houston, and three NFL74 draft choices, All-Pro Payne, speedster Odom and persevering Smith, the first-round pick out of Richmond who appeared destined for NFL stardom until injuring his knee in the College All-Star Game.
