  1. The Vikings have a new quarterback this season, Mike Rieker. The Rams' third-round draft choice of NFL78 would've become the second Lehigh alum starting at QB in the bigs, but then Kim McQuilken lost his job to Guy Benjamin in Atlanta.

Bud Grant has concentrated most of his recent draft efforts to restocking his Purple People Eaters. Two rookies--first-rounder DT2 Ben Rudolph of Long Beach State and third-rounder S2 Chris Williams of Louisiana State--are already on the first team. The second- and third-rounders in NFL79--LB3 Ken Fantetti of Wyoming and CB2 Johnny Lynn of UCLA, respectively--have also cracked Grant's starting defensive 11.

  2. The Vikings simply have to find a way to win if they're going to get a day like this out of the new quarterback.
