NFL 1982 Week 11 Preview

The NFC West is getting very interesting with three teams looking like real playoff contenders, the 49ers, the Rams, and the Saints.  Everyone expected the 49ers to win the Division, but no one expected much out of the Rams, too old, or the Saints, no offense.  But the Saints have found some offense this year and the Rams are playing like they were a much younger team.  The 49ers should still win the Division, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the other two teams in the playoffs.

In the NFC East the teams seem to be going the other way.  The Giants are struggling with their offense stalling out and the Redskins are struggling with their horrible defense.  The Cardinals are still a few years away from being able to compete for a playoff spot, so that just leaves the Cowboys and the Eagles.  These two teams should make the playoffs and right now the Cowboys are looking like the better of the two teams.  Their defense has really improved and of course their offense has always been dangerous.  The Eagles on the other hand find their defense really struggling.  They still lead the Division but I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a fade from them coming down the stretch.

In the NFC Central the big surprise are the Vikings.  Like the Rams they were written off as too old and in the midst of rebuilding, but they have moved into second place in the Division and have a very good defensive unit.  Now it's the Lions who are looking old and the Bears who are inconsistent.  The Packers still lead the Division and should win it, but no one has faith in their offenses ability to close the deal.

In the AFC Central, Houston has finally moved into the black with an above .500 record.  It's their Division to lose as they seem to be the only team that is really competitive this year.

The Chargers still sit atop the AFC West with Kansas City and Seattle struggling behind.  The Chiefs are playing much better and could be dangerous if they make it into the playoffs.  The Seahawks meanwhile seem incapable of sustaining any kind of momentum and it's hard to imagine at this point they will make the playoffs.

In the AFC East all the teams continue to beat each other up.  The Patriots are now alone at the top of the Division and are probably playing the best football in the AFC right now.  They have very little offense, but their defense is completely overwhelming teams.  Meanwhile the Colts and the Dolphins sit just behind them with the Jets in a free fall seemingly on their way out of the playoff picture.

Games to Watch
Minnesota 5-5 at Dallas 7-2-1
A win in Dallas could really bolster the Vikings toward the playoffs.

San Francisco 8-2 at Washington 5-5
With the high powered 49er offense and the struggling Washington defense this seems predestined to be a blowout.  Washington really needs this win at home to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Green Bay 6-4 at Philadelphia 8-2
This is a simple matchup of one of the best defenses in the League versus one of the best offenses.  It has the potential to be a very fun game.

Seattle 5-5 at New Orleans 6-4
This should be a good matchup for the Seahawks.  The Saints will have to get some offense to win this one.

New England 7-3 at Miami 6-4
A must win game for the Dolphins, the Patriots are looking to take over as the force of the AFC East.

Los Angeles 6-4 at Kansas City 5-5
The Rams are one of the hottest teams going right now, but the Chiefs are much better than their record.  This should be a real shootout.

San Diego 7-3 at Oakland 4-6
A must win home game for the Raiders if they hope to stay in the playoff picture.

Baltimore 6-4 at Houston 5-4-1
Houston proved last week that they are a legit Division leader.  The Colts really need this game since it's a given they will probably lose some in the AFC East down the stretch.
