Up 14-3 late in the first half Terry Bradshaw got knocked out of the game. The Steeler offense collapsed behind Jeb Blount until late in the game. Down 20-17 with 1:31 left Blount lead the Steelers on a 72yd drive to take a 24-20 lead. The Cowboys almost got it back though with a 40yd pass from Roger Staubach to Fred Nixon getting down to the Pittsburgh 28 with 2 seconds left. On the last play Staubach hit Darrin Nelson who was stopped just short of the goal line by Wayne Fields to save the game for Pittsburgh in a big upset.
