  3. Job well done.

Lynn Dickey's high school named its football stadium after him. Kansas State retired his (and Steve Grogan's) No. 11 jersey. He was the Houston Oilers' 1973 third-round draft choice, and he has been the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback since he came over in a trade before the NFL76 campaign. There have been some awfully high highs in this 6-foot-3, rifle-armed Kansan's football career.

And yet he might have never have shown himself to be so crisp a quarterback than on this sunny-but-chilly afternoon at Soldier Field.

The following play--a safe, live-to-fight-another-day checkdown to give Dave Beverly ample room from which to punt back to the Bears--was an early indication that Dickey's eyes were affixed firmly on today's prize. A couple of hours later, by the time the sun was falling across Chicago's western sky, Dickey and the Packers were hoisting that prize over their heads: a 6-3 divisional road victory to loosen what had been an exceedingly tight playoff race.

Green Bay's ball on their 15 yard line. Third and just over 14 to go. 6:09 left in the first quarter. The score is Green Bay 3, Chicago 0.
The pass from Green Bay's QB1 #4 Lynn Dickey is caught by WR2 #84 Ken Payne for a gain of almost 7 yards. Payne is tackled by Chicago's CB1 #21 Allan Ellis. Fourth and just over 7 to go. That was GPP2L082 (367) against S4PM271 (369).
