NFL 1982 Week 9 Preview

The Jets are struggling losing their third game in a row and now find themselves tied at the top of the AFC East with Miami and New England.  It's their defense that is slipping.  The Colts are also right there with a 4-4 record, but seem unable to find any consistency in their passing game.

Houston meanwhile sits atop the AFC Central with a measly 3-4-1 record.  The Steelers and Browns are just behind them, but none of these teams are any good.

San Diego has the best record in the AFC at 6-2 and sit atop the West.  Seattle and Kansas City are close behind at 5-3 and 4-4 respectively.  The battle for the playoff spots in the AFC should be wild this year.

In the NFC West San Francisco sits on top with a 7-1 record.  They look very good to repeat as NFC West champs and right now look like the best team in the NFC.  The Saints are the big surprise here turning things around to get to 5-3.  The big improvement in with their offense.  The Rams are also hanging in the playoff hunt with a 4-4 record.

Green Bay is atop the NFC Central with a 5-3 record and Detroit is close behind at 4-4.  These are really the only two teams that seem alive in this Division.

In the NFC East, however, there are four teams in contention just like the in the AFC.  The Eagles sit on top at 7-1, with Dallas just behind at 6-1-1.  The Giants are the big story, bouncing back to a solid 5-3, while the Redskins struggle along at 4-4.  The Redskins have no defense and in the end that will probably crush their chances.

Games to Watch
Dallas 6-1-1 at Philadelphia 7-1
This should be a great, high scoring matchup.

San Francisco 7-1 at Los Angeles 4-4
This is a big game for the Rams who are trying to stay in the playoff hunt and would love to rally back in the second half to take the Division.  The team they have to beat is San Francisco.

Seattle 5-3 at San Diego 6-2
This should be a good defensive battle.

Houston 3-4-1 at Pittsburgh 2-6
If the Steelers hope to get their season back, they need this win at home.
