  1. One of the interesting names on the rosters of these two teams is Miami's QB3, Archie Manning, the longtime starter of the Saints. He was once drafted as a shortstop by baseball's Chicago White Sox.

  2. Another former first-round pickup on Don Shula's bench is FB2 Norm Bulaich, the Colts' top choice in 1970 out of Texas Christian. His 198-yard performance in a 1971 game set a Baltimore record.

  3. Miami's inactive 10th-year T4, Gordon Jolley, is a former Lion. After switching from receiver to tackle for his sophomore season, Jolley started every game for three straight seasons at Utah and earned All-Western Athletic Conference, says his 1976 card. He went to Detroit as a 17th-round draft choice in 1971, was released but turned back up in 1972 and became a dependable backup. He moved on to Seattle in the NFL76 expansion draft before eventually making it to Miami.

  4. Back from his second injury absence of NFL81, Malone's rugged running early in the possession keys a Miami field-goal drive near the end of the first half ...

  5. An evenly played first half by almost any measure.

  6. Nolan Cromwell's 80-yard punt return is the game's first giant play. Dolphins LB3 Lance Mehl, a former Ohio coal miner, makes a touchdown-saving (for now) tackle at the 1.

  7. Indeed, LB1 Reggie Wilkes stuff Greg Landry on a first-down sneak, and CB1 Sid Dixon knocks down his third-down pass. Kelby Walker's second field goal puts Detroit ahead and home, 6-3.
