Look at what the Rams did to the Cowboys' rushing attack.
ReplyDeleteRushing Car Yds Avg Lg TD
HB3 Darrin Nelson 4 6 1.5 9
HB1 Earl Campbell 17 2 0.1 5
QB1 Roger Staubach 4 -5 -1.3 1
FB1 Mario Cage 3 9 3.0 9
HB2 Doug Dennison 6 6 1.0 10
The Rams survived a nine-sack performance by the Doomsday defense. Five of the sacks came from Dallas DT3 Randy White, "the Cowboys strongest player," his 1982 card says. "Randy's performances are truly spectacular in nature. A phenomenal athlete, he just doesn't have any bad games. He may be slowed a little by opponents but he can't be stopped."
ReplyDeleteThe HB1 torch was passed, finally, from Lawerence McCutcheon in NFL82, and, to the surprise of some, it was William Andrews and not John Capppelletti on the receiving end. Indeed, Andrews carried 214 times in the regular season for an average of 3.2 yards per carry. He rushed for six touchdowns and fumbled four times. HB2 Cappelletti, HB4 McCutcheon and rookie HB3 Marcus Allen combined for 171 attempts, racking up a combined average of 3.9 yards per, eight touchdowns and no fumbles. Allen, the Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Southern California, showed his "outstanding break-away speed" (says his 1982 card) on a 61-yard touchdown burst among 10 total carries for 111 yards.
