NFL 1981 Week 15 Preview

Dallas pulled out a big win last week beating San Francisco 17-10.  With Washington beating the Cardinals the Cowboys are alone atop the NFC East.  The Cowboys are a much improved team under new head coach Ted Marchibroda.  Meanwhile the Redskins and the Cardinals sit even and would both be wild cards.

In the Central it's Detroit looking good after beating Chicago to stifle their shot at the Division title.  Green Bay is the only team that has a chance to topple the Lions, but all the Lions have to do is win one more and the Division is theirs.  Meanwhile the Packers and the Bears may have lost their chances for the playoffs.  They will need to probably win out and other teams lose out if they hope to sneak in.  Since they play this week one of them is going to be eliminated.

San Francisco has a chance to clinch the NFC West Division this week on the road in Los Angeles.  They have been on the verge of taking this Division for years with no luck.  Can they win now with the pressure on.  For most of the year they were the best team in the NFC, but now everyone is looking to Detroit and Dallas.  The Rams meanwhile need the win as well to stay in the lead position of wild card hopefuls.  Any loss at this point can be critical.

In the AFC the Chiefs now hold control of home field throughout the playoffs.  A surprise to many people, but with their improved defense they have become a very very dangerous team.  Could they be on their way to their 3rd Super Bowl ring.  The Seahawks and the Chargers are both fighting hard for wild card slots.  The Chargers will have a tough road as they still have to play Pittsburgh and then travel to Seattle.  That game should be fantastic, the great defense versus the great offense.

The Steelers meanwhile pulled out a big win beating the Dolphins and with the Oilers losing to New England find themselves now back atop the AFC Central.  They win out they win the Division, but they have a very tough game next week in San Diego.  Meanwhile the Oilers close with two lightweights.

In the AFC East both the Dolphins and the Jets loss and they play this week.  If the Dolphins win this one at home they will take the Division.  This should be a great game.  The Jets live and die by their defense so it's a tough matchup for them.  They will need Vince Evans to have a big game.  Meanwhile the Colts finally won a big game to keep their playoff hopes alive.  They have to travel for their last two.

Games to Watch in Week 15
Green Bay 7-6-1 at Chicago 7-7
One of these two teams will no longer have a shot at the playoffs after this game.  These are two teams that rely heavily on their defenses, this could be a very boring game.

San Francisco 10-4 at Los Angeles 8-6
A win here clinches the Division for San Francisco.  Their offense is struggling a bit without Delvin Williams so they will rely heavily on Jim Plunkett.  There is a good chance the Rams will give themselves a shot at taking the Division in the final week.

Washington 8-6 at Dallas 9-5
The Redskins beat St. Louis last week and now move on to Dallas.  They will need another big game out of Theismann if they hope to win as they are without Mike Thomas.  This should be a high scoring affair.

St. Louis 8-6 at Kansas City 11-3
Talk about high scoring.  This game could be a very high scoring game with both teams averaging over 20 points a game.

Pittsburgh 10-4 at San Diego 8-6
The Steelers impressed last week against the tough Miami defense, this week they will be facing another tough defense.  I don't really think the Chargers can keep up with the Steelers, but to do so their offense will have to show up.

New York Jets 9-5 at Miami 10-4
A win for Miami clinches the Division a loss and it all will come down to the final week.  This should be a low scoring defensive battle.
