  1. A smattering of cheers rise from the home crowd as unpopular first-year Giant Joe Reed is carted off the field. The new signal-caller, Jerry Golsteyn, was New York's 12th-round draft choice of NFL76. He might've been on his way to overtaking Craig Morton as QB1 as a rookie, but--after leading the Giants to preseason wins over the Oilers, Steelers and Packers--Golsteyn suffered a knee injury and missed most of the regular season. "Jerry is one of 6 brothers, all of share the first initial 'J,'" says his 1978 card.

  5. Some feel Walter White is NFL81's most underrated player. "The most pleasant surprise for Chiefs in 1975, he came to club the day after the 43-man roster had been reached," says White's 1977 card. "Making his presence known early, he caught a 69-yard touchdown pass as his first reception as a pro. All 3 of his 1975 touchdowns went for a distance of 48 yards or more. ... Holds Maryland single game receiving record of 144 yards against Penn State in 1974."
